This morning, I made a pitcher of sweet, refreshing watermelon juice to keep my family hydrated while we packed up for our road trip.

Watermelon juice is so refreshing and naturally sweet that I could live on that alone.  In fact, last summer when a friend visited we decided to do two days juice cleanse and we did it with just watermelon juice. It made us feel a lot lighter and more energetic but I won’t recommend this if you have medical issues.  Here is a simple juice recipe that I made this morning.

How to Make Watermelon Juice

Watermelon is the easiest fruit to juice with so there won’t be anything easier than this. All you need is a blender or juicer.

Wash the skin really clean. We got ours from the famer market so the skin a bit dirty with lots of dirt on it. Then scoop flesh of the watermelon into the blender, blend for about 25-30 seconds, and ta da! You have yourself some refreshing watermelon juice.

You can strain through a milk bag if you prefer the smooth no pulpy taste or you can just drink straight no straining.  This juice will be delicious no matter which way you go.

If your juice separates as it sits, just stir with a spoon.

Refreshing, naturally sweet watermelon juice couldn’t be easier to make in a blender. Yield will vary based on the size of your watermelon, but my 6.5-pound watermelon yielded about 5 cups of juice.

  • 1 medium sweet watermelon (a 6-7 pounder will do)
  • 1 small lime or lemon, juiced (option)

  1. Slice the watermelon in half.  Using a big stainless steel spoon, scoop big chunks of sweet melon into the blender. Discard the rind.
  2. Blend the watermelon about 20-30 second or until it is totally pulverized. For a more tangy taste squeeze the juice of one small lime or lemon into the blender and blend for a few more seconds. **Note: If you squeeze lime or lemon it will be a bit bitter the next day.
  3. Strain the juice in a milk bag or strainer if you prefer smooth taste and not pulpy and add ice. Store juice in glass jar to keep it fresh. It will last 4 days.
  4. Drink it ASAP just because it taste so good and really good for you! More on the vitamins and minerals of all these recipes in the near future.
